Motherhood stories from Marissa Anastasi: If you’re actively co-parenting with your kids’ Father, whether you’re still in a relationship or not, put each other first before the kids, because in doing so, by default the kids come first cause you’re all looking after each other. Care more about their heart than their outward actions, and prioritize your marriage. If it works for you then it’s not a bad habit. When it’s not working, change it. Find what works for your family and stick with that!
There’s no shortage of advice available to new moms. Between best-selling parenting books, well-meaning family and friends, and even strangers on the street, there’s plenty of advice to consider. Just sifting through the sheer amount of information that comes your way can be a daunting task—how do you know whose advice to take and whose to (respectfully) disregard? Because we’re of the mindset that honest parenting advice from real moms is one of the best resources out there, we asked the smart, insightful mothers and experts in the area of parenting to share their words of wisdom. Their comments had us nodding in agreement, laughing out loud, and looking for a pen and paper to jot down notes.
Know the lingo. Do you know what metal core is? How about emo? Have you ever seen a poser? Do you know what a mosh pit is and have you ever seen anyone two step? (not the country two step). If not, then you need to brush up on your teen lingo. You can’t communicate with them if you don’t know the language. Again, it is difficult to communicate and connect with you child if you have such a disconnect that you don’t understand their world. Listen to their music, know the artists AND the genres. Who knows, you may even find some music that you actually like. What’s more, you can talk to your child on their level about their world. See a few more details at Motherhood blog.
Having the privilege to nourish, nurture, teach and watch your child grow. It’s a surreal, rewarding, challenging experience that I love. It has given me a deeper appreciation for my own Mom and given me new confidence and purpose. I love surprise cuddles, the presentation of flowers picked on a walk and given with wide eyes and a beaming smile. When he masters a new skill and the pride and excitement of that. When you suddenly realize that you have become something of a cross between a superhero, warrior, full of love woman and you cannot possibly imagine any other experience transforming you in the way that being a Mom has done.
My blog is really about my passions in life and my struggles and it’s probably the same for many people. I feel like I could share a lot of experiences, good and bad and blogging also gives me a platform to share moments in our ever-changing life from babies, young kids to teenagers. There’s a mixture of topics, not just motherhood but lifestyle, house design, fashion, travel. I’m passionate about supporting small businesses, especially local ones and those that are run by mums like myself, as I know first-hand how difficult this is and how much the small shops need local support to survive.
